Emilio Azcarraga, Leader of Grupo Televisa, Continues to Address Philanthropy in Latin America

Mr. Azcarraga Speaking Today at Inter-American Development Bank Meeting on Philanthropy Following Last Month's PODER Philanthropy Forum

MIAMI, April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Emilio Azcarraga, Chairman and CEO of Grupo Televisa, the world's foremost Spanish language media corporation, is speaking today on the panel, "New Partnerships for Development: Private/Public Collaboration and Philanthropy that Delivers," which begins the 49th Inter- American Development Bank Annual (IADB) Meeting taking place in Miami.

Mr. Azcarraga is speaking during the "CEO Forum on Philanthropy" to discuss the growth and potential of corporate philanthropy in Latin America, highlighting what amounts to a remarkable rise in the level of attention being paid to philanthropy in the region. Just last month, Grupo Televisa, together with PODER Magazine, IADB, Banamex, Miami Dade College and the city of Miami, among others, hosted, with enormous success, the unprecedented and ground- breaking PODER Philanthropy Forum on March 12 in Miami. Business leaders, politicians and celebrities -- including microfinance pioneer and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Muhammad Yunus, president of Google.org Larry Brilliant and One Laptop per Child founder Nicholas Negroponte -- came together to present and discuss the many possibilities for philanthropy through accounts of generosity, creativity, ambition and sense of purpose over the course of the all-day event.

While the PODER Philanthropy Forum focused exclusively on philanthropy in Latin America, discussion at the Annual Meeting of the IADB encompasses finance, trade and economic development in the region.

Mr. Azcarraga said, "I am truly honored and excited to be here today as a speaker at the IADB's Forum on Philanthropy, and I applaud President Moreno for choosing this important topic as the focus for our discussions. Today's meeting is a great complement to last month's PODER Philanthropy Forum, both serving as important venues for participants to share ideas and experiences, and collectively come up with new ways to implement, improve and increase philanthropic projects and charitable giving throughout Latin America. It is my hope and expectation that the current focus on the issue of charitable giving in the region will touch the hearts and minds of our community and spur positive action and progress."

Alberto Ibarguen, president and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, moderator of the "CEO Forum on Philanthropy," and key participant in the PODER Philanthropy Forum said, "The PODER Philanthropy Forum and today's IADB Forum on Philanthropy herald a new era for Latin America. It is an exciting time, and I consider myself very fortunate to play a part in both events. These meetings are an important step in the fostering of a new generation of leaders in Latin America who understand philanthropy's importance and potential impact."
