Comcast California Offers Papal Masses On Demand
Historic Washington, D.C. and New York City Masses Available for Viewing at Customer Convenience
SAN RAMON, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comcast Cable and EWTN Global Catholic Network today announced they have partnered to provide Comcast California customers the opportunity to view coverage of the masses celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI in Washington, D.C. and New York City through Comcast's Local Video On Demand service. The masses will be available free of charge to Comcast Digital Cable customers, allowing them to view each mass in its entirety at their convenience, day or night, with the ability to pause, fast forward and rewind.
The two events include the Papal Mass taking place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, April 17 and the Papal Mass taking place at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Sunday, April 20, concluding the Pope's historic visit to the United States. EWTN will offer a live telecast of each Mass, which will then be available for ON DEMAND viewing beginning that same evening. Both masses will be available ON DEMAND through Sunday, April 27.
"We would like to extend our thanks to EWTN for giving Comcast the opportunity to make these two special events available to our customers as a public service, allowing them to experience these Papal Masses on their own schedule with family and friends," said Bryan Byrd, Director of Communications for Comcast California. "These historic masses are a wonderful example of the type of special event programming our customers want and that we are uniquely positioned to deliver."
"We're delighted and grateful that Comcast is making EWTN's coverage of the two Papal Masses available to its customers," said Michael P. Warsaw, president of EWTN. "This is a great service to anyone who may not be able to view the Masses real time or who may want to experience the events again."
Comcast Digital Cable customers can view the Masses at no additional charge by tuning to Channel 1 on their digital cable lineup or pressing the ON DEMAND button on their remote control. San Francisco Bay Area viewers should then click on "Bay On Demand" and select the "Papal Mass" folder, while Central California viewers should click on "Get Local" and select the "Papal Mass" folder. To view live coverage of every event during the Pope's U.S. trip, customers can tune to EWTN Global Catholic Network.
Comcast's signature ON DEMAND service continues to be a one-stop destination for local and entertainment programming -- available anytime a customer wants to watch, with the ability to fast-forward, pause or rewind. Comcast's expanding ON DEMAND library today offers more than 10,000 titles per month, the vast majority of which are free. Since 2003, Comcast customers have viewed more than seven billion ON DEMAND programs.
