WIBC-FM Launches Free Real-Time Video Traffic Service for Mobile Phones

WIBC-FM Launches Free Real-Time Video Traffic Service for Mobile Phones

Cell Cam Traffic to Ease Daily Commutes in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Indy's News Center WIBC radio (93.1 FM) is launching Cell Cam Traffic, a free mobile traffic service for Indianapolis-area commuters that will help local drivers spot and avoid highway tie-ups with streaming live video right to their mobile phones.

"This new service demonstrates WIBC's commitment to new technology and our interactive presence while adding value for our listeners," said Jon Quick, director of operations for WIBC-FM, an Emmis Communications station. "For years, commuters in the Indy area have relied on WIBC in cars for traffic news; now they can plot their trips with real-time information, when they need it, before they even get behind the wheel."

The new advertising-supported service targets the thousands of daily commuters in the region. Commuters will now be able to view traffic congestion on their mobile devices before leaving their home, office or school, to help them plan the quickest and safest route.

The service relies on 56 traffic cameras operated by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and is part of the Intelligent Transportation System. Cameras are mounted along roadways in the WIBC-FM listening area.

3rd Dimension Inc., a New York-based mobile marketing and application company, developed and operates the system. Once the application is downloaded to their cell phones, drivers can choose to view live traffic images from any of the cameras along their route and can even program shortcuts for quick access to their favorite shots.

The WIBC Cell Cam Traffic application is compatible with data-enabled phones on the Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile networks, and it works with popular smart phones such as the BlackBerry, Palm Treo and the Motorola Q.

To download the video application, commuters can go to the http://wibc.com/traffic/ website and sign up for the free service by entering their mobile phone number.
