AMSTERDAM, March 11/PRNewswire/ -- The 'digital concert hall' Monteverdi opened its doors to the public for
the first time. The organisation will specialise in worldwide Internet
broadcasts of classical music. This will allow a wide audience access to
performances and recitals that were previously only available to a limited
group of concertgoers.
The premiere on http://www.monteverdi.tv will be the St. Matthew Passion,
as performed by the Netherlands Bach Society under Jos van Veldhoven. The
tradition (first started in 1922) of performing the work in the Grote Kerk in
Naarden is world-renowned, and it will be broadcast for the first time live
on the Internet on Friday, 14 March. The broadcast will be repeated a limited
number of times until 21 March. The concert is a coproduction between
MonteVerdi and the Dutch television company AVRO.
