70th Anniversary of Boys Town Celebrated With Mickey Rooney and Web Site Launch

AFI Dallas International Film Festival Honors Mickey Rooney

BOYS TOWN, Neb., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Boys Town, the world famous national youth care organization and the 2008 AFI Dallas International Film Festival will kick off the 70th Anniversary of the Academy Award-winning film "Boys Town" by honoring Mickey Rooney and launching the movie's official web site, http://www.boystownmovie.com/.

Hollywood star Mickey Rooney will be honored March 27 with the AFI DALLAS Star Award for his contributions to film, especially his role in "Boys Town." The movie will be screened at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at SMU Hughes-Trigg Theater. Boys Town National Executive Director Father Steven Boes, Mickey Rooney and Boys Town alumni will attend the public event.

The Boys Town Movie web site, with special thanks to Warner Brothers, Warner Home Video and Turner Classic Movies, is believed to be the only non-promotional web sites dedicated to a film and a real place continuing its efforts to help children. The movie, which won Spencer Tracy a Best Actor Oscar(R) (which is on display at Boys Town) is on several AFI "Top" lists of all time.

http://www.boystownmovie.com/ features trivia, "reel" stories, slide shows, a trivia game and actual clips of the movie as well as links to AFI Dallas 08 and Boys Town youth care, health care and resource web sites.

Please share the web site launch with your audiences. Media outlets interested in Mickey Rooney interviews should contact John Melingagio, Boys Town Public Relations at 402.215.4074 or John Wildman, AFI Dallas 2008 Presented by Target at 214.720.0555.

Boys Town is a beacon of hope for America's children and families through its life-changing youth care and health care programs across the United States. Now 90 years strong, Boys Town is embarking on a new mission to affect change in a fragmented system of youth care by building a continuum of child and family services to provide the right services at the right time based on a child's or family's needs. The nonprofit, nonsectarian organization provides children and families with services in their own homes, or, when necessary, family-like out-of-home services to children with special treatment needs. Boys Town works with communities and schools in order to meet the growing and more diverse needs of today's children and families. Boys Town provides direct care to more than 47,000 children and assists nearly 1.4 million each year through its youth care and health care programs.
