U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for February 28
WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28: "M*A*S*H" SIGNS OFF
Profile America Thursday, February 28th. It may be hard to believe, but the final episode of "M*A*S*H" was aired on this day 25 years ago. At that time, the program was the most watched television show of all time. All across the country in homes, hotels, bars, dormitories and military bases more than six-of-every-10 viewers watched the characters they'd grown to love over the preceding 11 years load up their helicopters and fly off. But Hawkeye, B.J., Radar and the rest can still be seen, since the series is in continual reruns. We each watch about 1,600 hours of television a year, compared to nearly a thousand hours listening to the radio, and just over 100 hours reading books. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at www.census.gov.
Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau. These daily features are available as produced segments ready to air on a monthly CD or on Internet at http://www.census.gov/ (look under the "Newsroom" button).
