Sliwa to Discuss Possible Startup of Guardian Angels Chapter in San Jose, Roundtable Discussion with Local Gang Prevention Leaders
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Temple Emanu-El of San Jose, the Bay Area's oldest Reform Jewish Synagogue with 147 years of civic involvement and service to the community, today announced that Curtis Sliwa, the founder of The Guardian Angels and a nationally acclaimed conservative leader, will be speaking at a free roundtable event marking his first-ever appearance in San Jose.
Mr. Sliwa will be joined on-stage by local civic volunteers in the Mayor's Gang Prevention Task Force to discuss how San Jose has taken a national leadership role in gang prevention activities and how the Guardian Angels may be able to offer additional support to their efforts in cooperation with local law enforcement and City Hall. Members of the Guardian Angels Oakland Chapter will also be on-hand to answer questions about their volunteer efforts on behalf of local Bay Area citizenry.
In 1979, Curtis Sliwa founded The Guardian Angels as an all-volunteer organization with the goal of making the streets and subways of New York safe. Now, 29 years later, The Guardian Angels have more than 100 chapters worldwide in 11 different countries and are providing schools with tailored anti-bully, anti-violence, anti-gang, and anti-drug programs as well as Web-related safety tips for parents. An internationally-recognized voice of conservatives across the nation and a true 'son of Brooklyn', Sliwa's message of hope and courage -- combined with a healthy dose of common sense -- has touched millions of people around the world.
Mr. Sliwa was invited to speak as part of Temple Emanu-El's ongoing Distinguished Speakers series, sponsored by its Brotherhood Auxiliary. The Series invites nationally-recognized speakers from both liberal and conservative viewpoints to discuss topics that impact our diverse San Jose community.
