Documentary highlights and encourages female participation in the political system
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT) and Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) today announced more than 10 screenings of the documentary "14 Women" during the months of March and April throughout the country. Sponsored by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., a longtime AWRT and WIPP supporter and partner, "14 Women" is a candid and inspirational film that follows 14 female senators in the 109th U.S. Congress. Screenings of the bi-partisan documentary film will be held at select high schools, as well as community and business organizations, including Girls Incorporated, local Girl Scouts, the Women's Foundation of Arkansas and the Wal-Mart Home Office.
"This is a chance for us to shout from the rooftops about the historic number of female senators in the 109th Congress," said AWRT President Maria Efantis Brennan. "Watching '14 Women,' you see just how far our country has come in terms of powerful women affecting change, and how far we still have to go."
"There have been many extraordinary women that have chosen to devote their energies to public service. They bring a richness of thought, life experience, expertise and management to their roles in government," said Barbara Kasoff, president and CEO, Women Impacting Public Policy. "We are fortunate to be able to peek into the world of the wonderful '14 Women' of the Senate, and watch them in action as they bring their unique gifts to our country."
The "14 Women" documentary allows audience members to witness the important role women play in the U.S. government and the impact the featured legislators have on the country. The film demonstrates how these women of power balance their personal lives and workloads, while assisting in leading the country and managing issues such as immigration reform, Hurricane Katrina, and Iraq War funding, among many others.
"As America celebrates Women's History Month this March, it's important for us to recognize how women shape our nation through their talents and leadership," said Susan Chambers, executive vice president, people division, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and a member of the WIPP Corporate Advisory Council. "'14 Women' is a remarkable look at how female legislators are changing the political arena and leading their communities and country into the future. Wal-Mart is proud to be part of such an exciting film that will inspire women of all backgrounds and ages to make their mark in this world."
The "14 Women" screenings will take place in Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Bentonville, Ark.; Little Rock, Ark.; San Francisco; and Nashville, Tenn.
