WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the midst of the harshest and deadliest conflict in modern history, where more than 4 million people have died in the past decade, there is hope in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Women for Women International works with rape survivors in the DR Congo to help them recover, physically and emotionally; to learn new skills and to rebuild their lives and families. Since 2004, Women for Women International has helped some 14,000 women and distributed $2.5 million in direct aid to the women of eastern DR Congo. Women for Women International's holistic program addresses women's immediate economic and emotional needs, then provides the job skills, health and literacy trainings to help women start small businesses and rebuild their lives.

"The world needs to pay attention to what is happening to the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo," said Zainab Salbi, Founder and CEO of Women for Women International. "The rape epidemic in DR Congo is of epic proportions. We must work together to bring attention and aid to the women and men suffering these horrible atrocities. The government and the international community has failed them, the rest of the world must not."

Women for Women International helps women in war-torn regions rebuild their lives by giving them financial and emotional support, job skills training, rights education, access to capital and assistance for small business development.

Sponsor a woman survivor of rape and war in the DR Congo today and help a woman, not just to live, but to thrive.
