Large Private Equity Acquisitions Grew U.S. Jobs Significantly in Recent Years, New Study Finds
Acquisitions of large companies by some of the leading U-S-based private equity firms between 2002 and 2005 resulted in significant net gains in U-S employment. This is according to an important new study released by the Private Equity Council. The most significant job gains came in the manufacturing sector, where U-S companies acquired by private equity firms posted an overall employment gain of 1 point 4 percent, versus a loss of 7 point 7 percent in the broader manufacturing sector.

AAA Survey Finds Many Child Safety Seat Laws Inadequate
Thirty years after the enactment of the nation's first child safety seat law, a new survey shows parents strongly support child safety seats and child seat laws. Yet nearly one hundred children under age 5 die every year in crashes they could have survived had they been using child safety seats, said triple 'A'. They are calling for states to close gaps in their child passenger safety laws. According to a survey released by triple 'A' to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Tennessee's first-in-the-nation child safety seat law, more than half of all parents look to their state law for guidance on how to restrain their children. A strong majority of parents surveyed said they are aware of their state's child restraint laws and most feel that these laws should be consistent across the country. But, less than half can accurately identify the age at which their state allows a child to ride in an automobile with only a lap and shoulder belt.

New Study Finds Decline in Single-Victim School-Associated Violent Deaths
School-associated student homicide rates which includes both public and private elementary thru high schools, decreased significantly from academic school years 1992 thru 2006. This is according to a study released in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The report shows a decline in the rates of single-victim school- associated homicides, while multiple-victim homicide rates, which were much fewer in number, remained stable. Of the last 109 incidents of school- associated student homicides studied, one- hundred-one involved only one victim. The data comes from the School-Associated Violent Death Study, which collects the latest records on school-associated violence from media databases, state and local agencies, police, and school officials in the United States. S-A-V-D is a collaboration among C-D-C and the U-S departments of Education and Justice.

DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, Ltd. have announced that SHREK THE MUSICAL will play an exclusive world premiere engagement at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, August 14th to September 21st. This is prior to opening on Broadway in the Fall of 2008. Preview performances will begin in early November at a theater to be announced. SHREK THE MUSICAL is an entirely new musical based on the story and characters from William Steig's book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series.
