Ecast December 2007 BarPulse Shows What Music is Hot in U.S. Bars and Nightclubs

Ecast Also Looks at 2007 Music Trends; Finds Hip Hop/R&B Dominated Play

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- While the airwaves were drenched in holiday sounds, the December Ecast BarPulse(TM) showed that it was actually R&B that reigned supreme in American bars and nightclubs with multi-platinum artist Mary J. Blige leading the way with her hit "Just Fine" at the #1 position and "Work That" at #3. Boosted by an Ecast promotion for Growing Pains, Blige also took the #8 and #9 positions with non-single tracks "Feel Like a Woman" and "Shake Down."

The Ecast BarPulse survey ranks plays of new music on the Ecast broadband media network, located in over 10,000 bars and nightclubs across the country. With more than 1,000 songs added weekly, Ecast keeps its finger on the pulse of nightclub and bar music and then issues a monthly ranking -- called Ecast BarPulse -- of the most popular song plays, nationwide, from that month's newly added content to the network.

In December, tracks outside of the R&B / Hip Hop genre that charted high were two tracks from Godsmack's new greatest hits album. Their radio-friendly cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" took the #4 slot while "Voodoo" came in at #7. Country music was also represented with Alan Jackson's "Small Town Southern Man" rounding out the top ten.

Ecast also surveyed their consumers on what genre was their favorite last year and the results mirrored that of the December Ecast BarPulse. Fully one- third of those respondents cited Hip Hop/R&B as their favorite genre of music. Classic Rock followed with 25 percent of the vote, Modern Rock and Country were neck and neck with 17 and 16 percent respectively and Latin pulled in 8 percent of the votes.

Paul Koehler, label relations manager, Ecast said, "The Ecast audience represents a trendsetting microcosm of the greater audience listening to radio and downloading music today. December's BarPulse followed the trend first identified in November with a strong R&B and Hip Hop presence from top to bottom. From Mary J. Blige at #1 to Wyclef at #75 the R&B /Hip Hop format continues to be the most popular new music selection with Ecast's bar and nightclub audience."
