Boll Family YMCA to Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With Songs of Praise, Protest: Public Invited

DETROIT, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Local musicians Rev. Robert Jones and Matt Watroba lead the YMCA Deep River Choir in a tribute concert to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 7 p.m. Friday at the Boll Family YMCA. The public is invited to attend. A donation of $10 per family will be collected at the door.

Spirituals and traditional songs adapted to the Civil Rights Movement as well as songs written in response to the era will be featured. Jones, an award-winning musician, educator and pastor of Detroit's Sweet Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church, will perform with public radio music host Watroba.

In addition to their solo and duo sets, Jones and Watroba will sing with the YMCA Deep River Choir, a community-based all ages group directed by Bobbi Thompson. The choir is known for its four-part harmony renditions of spirituals, work songs and Motown covers.
