BitGravity to Make Live Broadcasts Ubiquitous on the Web

BG LiveBroadcast(TM) Lets Media Companies Offer Viewers TV-Quality Experience With a Scalable and Affordable Solution

PALM DESERT, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- DEMO 08 -- BitGravity, Inc., the pioneer in Content Delivery Networks (CDN) for interactive broadcasting, today launched BG LiveBroadcast(TM), the first cost-effective, carrier-grade, live broadcasting solution that lets media companies broadcast live content over the Internet to millions of viewers in a high-quality, highly-reliable experience that rivals television. BitGravity was selected by the DEMO 08 conference producers as a presenter and will host the first live broadcast of the conference with BG LiveBroadcast at http://www.demo.com/.

"By the end of this decade, the Internet -- not cable, not satellite -- will become the single most powerful network for delivering video," said Perry Wu, CEO and co-founder of BitGravity. "The potential for online video is boundless. That is why we are introducing BG LiveBroadcast: to deliver a simple, live broadcast solution for content providers, with an unmatched user experience. BitGravity LiveBroadcast will transform live broadcasting online from being an occasional event to being part of our daily lives."

Current live broadcasting over the Internet has not been widely adopted, because it is difficult to deploy, not reliable, and cost-prohibitive. Today's live broadcasting architectures require persistent connections between the source of the content and the consuming computer and therefore need intensive computing environments to maintain that persistence. That environment requires content publishers to install a tangle of hardware products and client-side software to broadcast a live event.

BG LiveBroadcast is a Flash-based streaming service that has greatly simplified and improved upon current system architectures and the underlying streaming methodology, removing the need for expensive hardware and proprietary software, as well as any downloaded media player to view the live content. BG LiveBroadcast has streamlined the necessary computers to a single device and driven the cost of the system down to less than half the cost of current installations.

"BitGravity is changing the game of video content delivery on the Internet," said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO Conferences. "One significant technology barrier remains between conventional broadcast and IP-based broadcast: the efficiency of showing live content. With the introduction of BG LiveBroadcast, broadcasters now can adopt the 'Net as a live broadcast medium and we are that much closer to parity between the Web and traditional broadcast media," she added.
