Mark Effron Named President and COO of TitanTV Media
Will Head First Ever Broadband Media Network as well as Company's Successful Legacy Business Products for Broadcasters
NEW YORK, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Effron, currently Senior Vice President of TitanTV Media, has been promoted to the newly created position of President and COO, it was announced today by Jack Perry, Founder and CEO of TitanTV, a media company that is revolutionizing the way television content is searched, managed, delivered and watched on the Internet. In his new role, Effron will oversee the suite of company's products including Media Star, Titan TV Guide and the Titan TV Network, the first of its kind digital media platform designed to connect local media and their advertisers to the digital world. Effron joined the company last May after four years as Vice President of Daytime Programming at MSNBC.
Reporting to Perry, Effron will be in charge of all operations including creation of original video programming, product development and affiliate sales. Perry will be freed up to focus on the company's long range planning, continuing his role as creator of cutting edge technologies and products that serve the broadcast industry, which has been the hallmark of TitanTV Media since its inception in 1996.
"Mark has the talent, management background and savvy to guide Titan's transition from a technology company to a content provider and digital platform," commented Mr. Perry. "I am thrilled he will be running the day-to-day operations of the company and be leading our terrific team in finding new products and programs that will help our partners generate new revenues in the years to come."
"My background in news and broadcasting management and Jack's unparalleled experience in media technology mesh well and make us ideal partners to help local broadcasters and producers of syndicated TV content find ways to monetize content in this new digital world," comments Effron. "Jack's been a mentor as well as a true visionary in foreseeing the intersections of technology and content. I'll be relying on him enormously to guide us through the ever-changing media landscape."
As a longtime partner to local broadcasters, TitanTV Media is launching a unique digital media platform designed to increase broadcasters' advertising revenue. The TitanTV Network will now offer local broadcasters original entertaining programming, packaged inside a hosted online video player, along with an easy-to-use content management system. This online video package is guaranteed to attract more local viewers wherever they are -- online, on-air, or on their mobile device -- and more advertising revenue.
Through its cutting edge original content, the TitanTV Network provides local broadcasters the opportunity to promote to a younger audience who want their news and entertainment delivered in a non-traditional way. Original video series include: "Daily Greens," a daily two-to-four minute comedic web-cast hosted by Liza de Guia (ex-Plum TV correspondent) that offers the public eco-news with a healthy dash of sass; "RevYOU," hosted by comedian and movie buff Grace Randolph, an unfiltered and very funny look at what's playing at a theater near you from the point of view of moviegoers exiting the theater after the first showing on opening day; and Titan Laughs, a comedy channel featuring sketches and situations dreamed up by comedian Michael Somerville (Glamour magazine's columnist "Jake.")
Mark Effron has been at the crossroads of television, technology and journalism for more than three decades. Prior to joining TitanTV Media, he was the vice president of daytime programming and breaking news at MSNBC, where he was responsible for attracting a younger demographic to cable news by creating programming and building news personalities more in tune with contemporary audiences. Prior to that, Effron was the vice president of news for Post-Newsweek Stations, the broadcasting division of The Washington Post Company, where he was responsible for creating and overseeing broadcasts that were the leaders in their markets. Earlier, Effron was a news director and a station manager in the Post-Newsweek chain.
About TitanTV Media
In 1996 Jack Perry took over the desktop mapping company Decisionmark Corp and began its evolution into what is today TitanTV Media. Perry and his team of software developers patented several important technologies that underlie the territorial exclusivity model that makes it possible for TitanTV Media to "tune the Internet." Foremost among these is TitanCast (formerly Geneva), the technology that predicts broadcast signals at the household-level. This tool, plus numerous additional patented solutions, is used to create innovative applications that help broadcasters, manufacturers and consumers use and share broadcast information. The Satellite Home Viewer Extension and Reauthorization Act (SHVERA) compliance system is a landmark application of TitanCast and redefined how television stations and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) carriers work together within the confines of federal copyright legislation.
In 2000 the company launched http://www.titantv.com/. The first version of this historic Web site was an online programming guide that supplied household-level TV listings and allowed users to program their digital recording devices. It was the only electronic program guide ever to use an exact street address to determine "what's on TV at my house." The guide is currently used by more than 1000 television stations nationwide. Its accuracy is supported by TitanTV Media's line of MediaStar products that conveniently allows broadcasters to manage program schedules and contract terms online.
