Film Solutions Chooses Alfresco for First-of-Its-Kind Web-based Photo Approval System
Partners to Create Online Production Portals For the Film and Television Industries
LONDON and LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Alfresco Software, Inc., the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM), today announced that Film Solutions LLC, a pioneer in environmentally-friendly film and television production tools, has selected Alfresco document management solution as the platform for its recently released PhotoKill Online(TM) photo approval system.
PhotoKill Online is the first-of-its-kind Web-based photo approval system that provides a complete solution to one of the most arduous tasks facing film and television production -- the talent photo approval, or photokill, process. By contract, many film and television stars have first right of refusal to a certain percentage of photos taken for marketing and publicity purposes. The traditional photokill process involves manual sorting, printing, packaging and delivering 15,000 to 25,000 photos to actors who may have already moved on to other projects.
PhotoKill Online is specifically designed to satisfy the contractual rights of talent while providing unprecedented photo management tools for film and television producers and production companies. By shifting the photo approval process to the Internet, PhotoKill Online provides instant and secure access to a production's entire photo library, virtually eliminating geographic and delivery constraints. Already, some of the major studios and independent production houses are using PhotoKill Online.
Kevin Matossian, founder of Films Solutions and producer of Hollywood films -- such as the recently released September Dawn starring Jon Voight -- was looking for solutions to production problems that he had experienced firsthand.
"For PhotoKill Online, we needed a platform that would provide secure worldwide access, automated photo sorting and tagging, and multiple search capabilities. Overall scalability was a concern, and we liked that Alfresco is open source," said Matossian. "None of the other solutions we evaluated even came close in terms of value to price. Alfresco will become an integral partner as we intend to use Alfresco as the basis for many of our upcoming products as well."
In addition to PhotoKill, Film Solutions is planning a suite of Internet film and television production management tools to automate various production tasks that are now manual and paper-based. The company wants to create a true "production portal," which will bring all the elements of entertainment production online and give every appropriate person access, as well as save time and cost.
Alfresco has seen major adoption of its open source ECM system throughout the world. The company now has more than 300 customers, including the American Stock Exchange, Boise Cascade, Christian Science Monitor, Informa and the Nebraska State Legislature. The community version of Alfresco's open source ECM has been downloaded 700,000 times.
