Lycos Presents its 7th Annual List of Most Popular Talk Radio Hosts, Based on Web Search Activity

Tom Joyner, Opie & Anthony See Biggest Jumps in Search Popularity; Adam Carolla and Tavis Smiley Suffer Biggest Drops

Consumer Advocate Clark Howard Debuts on List; Veteran Talkers See Resurgence in 2007

WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Lycos, Inc. (www.lycos.com), a leading provider of social publishing, media and search technologies, today announced its seventh annual list of the most popular talk radio personalities with web users, based on Internet searches. For a complete list and commentary of The Lycos Top Talk Radio Hosts of 2007, go to http://50.lycos.com/ . Users can also voice their opinions on this year's list, and weigh in on weekly Internet trends and pop culture on The Lycos 50 Blog located at http://lycos50.tripod.com/blog/.

For the seventh straight year, Howard Stern continues his reign as the most-searched talk radio personality with web users, generating more searches than Tom Joyner and Opie & Anthony combined. Stern's online popularity remains strong, with search activity increasing 44% since making the move from terrestrial radio to Sirius Satellite in Jan. 2006. Tom Joyner takes the number two spot on this year's list, more than doubling in search popularity over the past year. But shock jocks Opie & Anthony, coming in at number three, are the biggest movers and shakers with web users in 2007, generating four times more search interest than this time last year.

Last year's biggest gainer, Adam Carolla of Infinity's Adam Carolla Show, sees the most significant drop on this year's list. Carolla, who reached number two in 2006 just behind Stern, falls off the list completely in 2007. Also falling off this year's list is Tavis Smiley, plummeting in search popularity over the past year.

Two hosts generating a great deal of media attention offline, but failing to register big numbers on the search radar are Bill O'Reilly and Don Imus. This marks the second consecutive year that O'Reilly has not appeared on the Lycos list of Top Talk Radio Hosts. And while he still makes this year's list, the controversy and subsequent firing of Don Imus failed to boost significant online interest for Imus in 2007, with his search numbers cut in half.

Joining O'Reilly and Smiley, other notables falling off the radar with web users in 2007 include Tom Leykis, Jim Cramer, Al Franken and Don & Mike. Replacing them and returning from last year are newcomers who made their debuts in 2006, including Wendy Williams, Emma B, Chris Evans and Sara Cox, who each continue to remain strong online.

The one new voice making a first-ever appearance on the Lycos list of Top Talk Radio Hosts is Clark Howard, host of the nationally-syndicated consumer advocate program, The Clark Howard Show. Howard, also an author and a syndicated television consumer reporter, makes his debut on this year's list at number 16.

Interestingly, veteran talk radio personalities appear to be resonating with younger web audiences, as they return to this year's list. Dr. Laura, who dropped off the list last year, jumps back on in 2007, doubling in search popularity. Also seeing resurgence in online popularity and returning to this year's list are Larry King, Mancow, Kim Komando and legendary talk radio personality, Paul Harvey, host of one of the longest-running syndicated radio programs in the US.

The Top 20 Most-Searched Talk Radio Personalities of 2007 (numbers in parentheses reflect last year's rank):

1) Howard Stern (1) 11) Sean Hannity (15)
2) Tom Joyner (6) 12) Bob & Tom (19)
