LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent Pew Research study found that three out of four adults prefer to watch movies at home rather than out at the theater, so many Americans are transforming their living rooms into home theaters with high-definition TVs, HD DVD players, surround sound and more. For movie-lovers who are still watching on the really small screen -- those traditional, tiny standard-definition TVs -- it's time to high-def the home. Technology expert Omar Wasow is teaming up with HD DVD to share suggestions on how to do just that, as well as encourage those in need of the ultimate upgrade to enter the HD DVD High-Def Home Makeover Sweepstakes and win a $25,000 home theater makeover.
According to Wasow, the technology is available to allow anyone to create a high-def home theater, no matter size of home or budget.
"HDTVs with the best resolution, 1080p, start at around $1,000, and accessories like an HD DVD player, which allows you to watch movies in high-definition with six-times better picture than regular DVDs and pristine sound quality, start at as little as $299," said Wasow. "Just like all consumer technology products, the prices will continue to come down."
Wasow also shares these tips for people who want to create HD theaters in their home:
-- Start by choosing a space -- look outside the living room as it's not
always the best spot to house a home theater. Find a location that has
few (or no) windows, blank walls and a rectangular (rather than square)
shape for optimum sound.
-- Select a TV with 1080p resolution that fits the space -- if a projector
and screen are too large, a 47" or larger LCD or Plasma TV is a great
choice. Surround sound speakers are a must for an immersive, cinematic
experience.
-- Once the equipment is in place, it is time to choose seating that is
comfortable and functional. To maximize the viewing experience,
seating should be positioned about three times the width of the TV away
from, and directly facing, the screen.
-- Owning a HDTV isn't all there is to HD. High-def content is a must! As
the official successor to the DVD, HD DVD immerses viewers in the
movie-watching experience. With more than 300 titles and over 1,000
available by the end of the year, an HD DVD player is a must for any
top-notch home theater. Plus, it'll make your current DVD collection
look its best with up-converting DVD playback capabilities.
-- If your budget allows, install canned track lighting with dimmers and
add shades or blinds to enhance your daytime moving-watching
experience. Finally, gray is the best color for walls but if that's too
dismal for your taste, choose a neutral color like tan.
