AJC Praises French Judge Ruling on Release of Al-Dura Video
NEW YORK, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Jewish Committee called a French judge's ruling that the television channel France-2 release video footage a "critical contribution to the search for truth" about the events that led to the reported death of Mohammed al-Dura seven years ago.
"We have long harbored questions about the al-Dura case, and have welcomed efforts in France, Israel and the United States to examine all the available evidence," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. "The judge's ruling has created an opportunity to review all of the videotape in the possession of France-2 that was recorded at the time -- and to learn the truth. We welcome this ruling, and look forward to what the France-2 videotape will reveal."
Al-Dura reportedly died in September 2000 during a gun battle at the Nitzarim Junction in the Gaza Strip between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen. He became an instant icon for Palestinians as partial footage of the tragedy of the 12-year-old boy was shown repeatedly on television worldwide, fueling extensive acts of violence and terror against Israel.
