Little Brothers and Sisters from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program to Play with Grammy Award Winning Band, Los Lonely Boys
Youth Chosen Will Also Receive Acoustic Guitars
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of America today announced a partnership with the Grammy award winning band, Los Lonely Boys, which includes giving "Little Brothers" and "Little Sisters" in the organization the opportunity to "jam" with the band on its current nationwide tour. Los Lonely Boys, consisting of three brothers from Texas, has also produced a #1 hit single, Heaven.
"We sought this partnership so we could share the gift of music and show kids that they can do what we do and cross boundaries like we did. We think it's really cool for these kids to see a Mexican American band -- an American dream come true," said Henry Garza, Los Lonely Boys guitarist. First Act, a leader in the musical products industry, will also provide a free acoustic guitar to each participating "Little."
During the current tour eight to ten children from the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency closest to the concert venue will attend a private event with Los Lonely Boys and their Big Brother or Sister. The participants will be invited to watch the band's sound check, which will be followed by an acoustic demo and music lesson where they will be invited to play the band's instruments, i.e., sitting behind the drums and strumming the guitar with members of the band guiding them.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about expanding horizons of children in our program," said Judy Vredenburgh, President and CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. "Music is an excellent vehicle both to learn and to expand self-expression. The fact that Los Lonely Boys are Mexican Americans gives our Latino "Littles" an additional opportunity to see role models in action. We thank Los Lonely Boys for providing these thrilling opportunities and First Act for donating the guitars."
Concerts remaining on the tour include: Hammond, IN (July 22); San Diego, CA (August 18); Flagstaff, AZ (August 22); Redding, CA (September 7); Perry, GA, (October 7), as well as a wrap-up event scheduled to take place in Austin, TX at the end of the tour.
"This partnership was a natural fit for First Act right from the start," said Bernard Chiu, Chairman and CEO of First Act. "The program aligns perfectly with our company mission of providing the opportunity for all who want to play music the ability to do so. We're honored to be a part of such a great, meaningful program," he added.
