WXYZ-TV Says 'Hats Off!' to the 'Brightest & Best' in the 28th Annual Salute to High School Seniors on Saturday, May 19

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 will pay tribute to over 250 high school seniors from throughout Southeast Michigan at a special picnic in the 28th annual celebration of the "Brightest & Best" on Saturday, May 19th.

Since 1980, the station has honored graduating seniors from public and private schools who have demonstrated excellence in academic, extracurricular and community pursuits. The program has recognized over 7,000 high school seniors in its 28-year history, making it the longest-running program of its kind in the Detroit market.

"As the years pass, the significance of this event grows as I watch so many promising young adults go on to pursue their dreams with strong determination. This is not only a salute to the students, but to the many devoted teachers, administrators, counselors, parents and others who have helped these young men and young women excel," said Channel 7 Vice President & General Manager Grace Gilchrist.

WXYZ-TV will host the "Brightest & Best" picnic on the grounds of Broadcast House in Southfield. During this event promotional spots will be taped featuring students and Channel 7 personalities. The spots will air on the station throughout the summer months. "Brightest & Best" is sponsored by Big Boy Restaurants International, LLC & Oakland University.
