Retirement Living TV to Air Special on 72-Year-Old NASCAR Driver James Hylton
'Yellow Mountain Road: The James Hylton Story' Premieres May 21
COLUMBIA, Md., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Retirement Living TV (RLTV), the first cable network created for people aged 55 and over, will air the premiere of "Yellow Mountain Road: The James Hylton Story" on May 21 at 3 PM (EDT). The one hour special traces 72-year-old NASCAR driver James Hylton's inspiring qualifying run at the 2007 Daytona 500 and will encore on May 23, May 25, and May 28 at 3 PM (EDT).
Hylton returned to racing because of his love for the fast-paced, adrenalin-infused sport. Once he secured a car provided by his longtime friend and country music artist J.C. Weaver, and also sponsorship by RLTV, he was ready to pursue his dream to become the oldest driver to race in the Daytona 500. The special documents Hylton's journey, and also chronicles his relationship with Weaver, who has been his friend since they were 10-year-old boys playing on their parents' farms on Yellow Mountain Road.
"James Hylton is a great example of what we want to capture with our programming at Retirement Living TV," said Elliot Jacobson, Vice President, Programming, RLTV. "He is an active senior, pursuing his dreams, and inspiring others to do the same."
Hylton was born in Pearisburg, Virginia, and was one of 13 children. As a teenager he became fascinated with stock car auto racing, and later began working as a mechanic for the legendary Rex White. In 1964, Hylton made his first Grand National start at the Old Dominion 400 at Manassas, Virginia, and finished 19th. His racing skills continued to improve, and in 1966 Hylton finished second in the points chase and won the coveted NASCAR Rookie of the Year award. He also captured his first pole at Starlite Speedway in Monroe, NC. Hylton found his way to victory lane for the first time on March 1, 1970 at the Richmond 500, driving the familiar number 48 Ford. On August 6, 1972, Hylton forever etched his name in the history books by claiming the Talladega 500. Hylton led 106 laps of the 188 lap race and won by one car length over ARCA legend Ramo Stott.
