Home Care Business Commits to Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease

Sostek and Alzheimer's Association Get 'Together for the Ride' at the Pops on June 14

NEWTON, Mass., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As of March 20th, 2007, the estimated 4 million Americans with Alzheimer's disease, or a related disorder, increased to 5 million, according to www.alzmass.org -- the website of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. An additional 2.5 million yet-to-be- diagnosed cases exist right now. All told, 19 million Americans have loved ones suffering from Alzheimer's, underscoring the exponentially devastating effects of this progressive, degenerative brain disease.

Sostek Home Care President Donald Sostek of Needham is one of those 19 million. He says his crusade against Alzheimer's is personal.

"Our business is senior care," Sostek said. "Since a considerable amount of our clients suffer from Alzheimer's disease, this issue is close to my heart."

Sostek, age 51, is also concerned about other baby boomers who may face a potential crisis if serious research doesn't get the continued funding it needs.

"Promising research developments provide more hope than ever for the future. Unfortunately, as a generation, our parents may have missed the boat," Sostek said of the millions who currently suffer from Alzheimer's disease.

For Sostek, that means making a commitment to spearhead fundraising for Alzheimer's research and teaching families of Alzheimer's patients how to cope with the disease. Sostek Home Care is actively involved in both of these efforts.

Sostek Home Care -- originally established as the Cecily Sostek Baby Nurse Agency, and currently celebrating their 50th year of providing home care -- has just completed certification training with the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. This training allows Sostek staff to offer their clients information about behavior management and stress-reduction strategies for families dealing with the disease.

Sostek Home Care is also the presenting sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts Chapter's 8th Annual Night at the Pops. The event, featuring Keith Lockhart conducting a concert version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel, takes place on Thursday, June 14 at Symphony Hall in Boston.

"Our participation in the Alzheimer's Association's Night at the Pops demonstrates our commitment to creating a world without Alzheimer's disease," Sostek said.
