Add a Little Piracy to Your Music Collection
KAYSVILLE, Utah, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- With the release of the record breaking Pirates of the Caribbean movies, it's no surprise that fans have been left wanting more. A Salt Lake City-based music group has answered the call with their new album, Last Voyage of the Black Betty. Rust Monster, an all- original pirate music group, has picked up their cutlasses, flintlocks and guitars to create a one-of-a-kind pirate musical experience.
"We're living out our childhood dreams," says Larry Nybo, drummer. "I think everyone has a little pirate in them; it's our job to reach into our fans' souls and draw him out."
Rust Monster's debut album, Last Voyage of the Black Betty, tells the story of Captain Stark, a fictional 18th-century pirate, as he sails his ship, The Black Betty, from port to port, looting the open seas. The story climaxes when Stark meets his old nemesis, Captain Henry Ramos, plucky pirate hunter, and they battle to the death ship-to-ship.
"We're not playing old pirate shanties," says Rob Griffin, guitarist. "We are not purists. We like to experiment. What would pirates sing if they had electric guitars? What would a pirate lounge singer sound like? How would a pirate band handle rap?"
Rust Monster is made up of a group of lifelong musician friends. "We have played everything from funk to heavy metal to country," says Aaron Ozminski, trombonist. "We felt it was time to do something truly different. Believe me, Rust Monster is different."
For pirate fans looking for something fun and unique, Rust Monster might be just the thing. Last Voyage offers a mixture of music styles, from funk to garage rock to light jazz. It seems the only cohesive aspect to this album is that it is completely fun from track 1 to track 13. Probable rating: PG.
