The American GI Forum and a Coalition of National Hispanic Organizations To Hold a Congressional Briefing on PBS's Lack of Hispanic Representation in 'The War'

WASHINGTON, April 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over 40 Veterans from across the country, members of the American GI Forum, Hispanic Members of Congress, and representatives from numerous National Hispanic organizations will present personal accounts and offer background to Members of Congress about the lack of inclusion of Hispanics in PBS's 14-hour documentary, "The War." Concerns were raised to PBS's President, Paula Kerger in March 2007 by the Hispanic Caucus, American GI Forum and numerous National Hispanic organizations to discuss the six-year project and question why there are no Hispanic Veterans represented in the documentary.

"We owe it not only to those people who honorably died in combat," says Antonio Gil Morales, National Commander of the American GI Forum, "but also to the hundreds of thousands of Hispanic veterans who came home to the same discrimination and segregation that existed when they left their families to serve in The War."
