Metro Detroit's Official Oscar Night(R) America Party to Benefit Ilitch Charities for Children and the Michigan Theater

Metro Detroit's Official Oscar Night(R) America Party to Benefit Ilitch Charities for Children and the Michigan Theater

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The prestige and glamour of Hollywood is coming to metro Detroit on Oscar Night(R). Residents of southeastern Michigan can experience the excitement of the 79th Academy Awards(R) on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at their own Oscar Night(R) America party at Ann Arbor's historic Michigan Theater. The gala is a charitable event for Ilitch Charities for Children and funds raised will directly support youth in the areas of health, education and recreation.

Sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the charity gala is the only official Oscar(R) viewing party in Michigan. The party is one of 49 similar galas to be held across the country on Oscar Night(R).

"This event promises to be a wonderful evening for all who attend," said David Agius, president of ICC. "We are thrilled to be teaming with the Michigan Theater and Oscar Night(R) America to benefit youth in our community."

Partygoers may choose one of two ways to enjoy the gala, which benefits Ilitch Charities for Children and the Michigan Theater. The Red Carpet VIP Party will begin at 6:00 pm and includes gourmet hors d'oeuvres and desserts, an official Oscar(R) Program Book and a photo taken with an authentic Oscar(R) statuette. The Balcony Bash begins at 7:00 pm in the spacious balcony of the Michigan Theater and includes popcorn, soft drinks and an official Oscar(R) Program Book.

Red Carpet VIP Party guests can arrive in style via a limousine for their grand entrance on the red carpet. A silent auction, casino games, and food and drink precede the live telecast of the 79th annual Academy Awards(R) beginning at 8:00 pm in the Michigan Theater's gloriously restored historic auditorium.

The audience will watch the Academy Awards(R) telecast on large screens courtesy of WXYZ-TV, the Detroit affiliate of the ABC Television Network, which broadcasts the Academy Awards(R) presentation. The event will be hosted live by WXYZ personality Diana Lewis.

The program books will be the same as those distributed to guests seated at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland(R) in Hollywood, California. The 79th Academy Awards(R) commemorative poster tops the list of prizes available at the gala.

Red Carpet Party tickets are $150; Balcony Oscar(R) Bash tickets are $50. Proceeds benefit local charities through Ilitch Charities for Children and the Michigan Theater. For tickets and further information, please call (313) 983-6340 or visit www.ilitchcharitiesforchildren.org

"Oscar Night(R) America offers a taste of the Academy Awards(R) show to communities across the country, communities which are happy not only to share in the glamour, but to support a good cause," said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis. "Oscar Night(R) America enables the public to participate on a local level, where the festivities and fundraising can yield the greatest benefit."

ABC and the Academy are cooperating for the 14th year with local charities to support official Oscar Night(R) viewing parties nationwide. Last year, official Oscar Night(R) parties raised more than $2.5 million for local charities in 47 cities. All money raised stays in the community.
