C2C Program Aims to Cultivate Next Generation of Latino Leaders
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Comcast Foundation announced a $25,000 grant to the National Puerto Rican Coalition's (NPRC) College to Career (C2C) Program, which is a series of hands-on seminars and training sessions designed to better-equip students with the skills needed to succeed in today's corporate workforce. This commitment reinforces Comcast's initiative to create education and employment opportunities within the Hispanic community.
C2C is a seven-week curriculum that educates students on topics not typically covered in the classroom - among them, corporate hiring and interviewing processes and Latino economic buying power. After students have completed the program, they can take advantage of additional development services that will make them more marketable to potential employers. In addition to the professional training and guidance that students will receive, the program also will work to develop the technical and social skill set necessary for individuals to advance in corporate America.
Upon completion of the training sessions, students will visit Comcast's Corporate Headquarters and team up with Comcast employees to experience a day of work at the nation's leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services. Students also will have the opportunity to meet top company officers and managers who will offer an inside look at Comcast's business goals.
"Comcast is committed to fostering the growth of diversity in corporate America," said David L. Cohen, executive vice president for Comcast and chairman of the Comcast Foundation. "We are proud to be a part of the C2C program and contribute to the development of young Hispanic leaders throughout the country."
"Comcast's support for the C2C program is instrumental to its success because without the participation of corporate partners, students would not benefit from meeting corporate executives who care about their personal development and success," said Manny Mirabal, NPRC president and chief executive officer.
"The Center for Strategic Urban Community Leadership at Rutgers University-Camden campus is proud to partner with the NPRC to cultivate future Hispanic leaders for corporate America by preparing them to meet the new challenges of the global market," said Dr. Gloria Bonilla-Santiago, Distinguish Professor and Director of the Center for Strategic Urban Community Leadership.
First launched at Lehman College in the Bronx in September 2006, C2C is open to college students ages 18-24 majoring in business, finance, accounting, economics or marketing. The program will be expanded to Rutgers University in June 2007.
Supporting the NPRC and its C2C program further exemplifies one of Comcast's key diversity initiatives to create opportunities for the Hispanic community. Comcast's commitment to diversity is focused in four key areas: attracting and retaining a multicultural workforce, developing a diverse supplier group, offering a wide selection of multicultural programming and pledging significant community investments.
