'Before Flying Back to Earth' Rated Best Foreign Film
PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lithuanian Film by Arunas Matelis, "Before Flying Back to Earth," received a 9.9 scorecard out of a possible 10 by readers of the Internet Movie Database as reported by Nominum at the Palm Springs Film Festival. The Director said, "I am surprised and extremely pleased by this news as well as the reception of my film in its US premier there, especially since this year, there are many excellent foreign films."
Fifty foreign language films, out of a total of sixty that are eligible for the Best Foreign Film nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, are being screened at the Palm Springs Festival through January 14. It is the last major film festival before the Oscar nominations are announced January 23. The 79th Academy Awards Presentation is scheduled for February 25 at the Kodak Center in Los Angeles.
"Before Flying Back to Earth" is a poetic journey into the lives of children living with leukemia. "This was a difficult film for me to make, for leukemia has been a part of our family for the past several years," continued Matelis, who wears a leukemia awareness ribbon pin. Matelis' daughter has leukemia and was the inspiration for this film. He returned to the pediatric hospital where she was treated, and created "Before Flying Back to Earth," which shows the strength and resilience of children, and the support and hope they impart on their parents.
"My strongest desire is that 'Before Flying Back to Earth' will bring comfort and calm to children and their parents facing challenges that our family has," concluded the director.
The Internet Movie Database is the Earth's Biggest Movie Database, receiving 42 million visitors per month.
