The Next Generation Council of the Motion Picture & Television Fund Celebrates Ten Years of Taking Care of Its Own

Council Names Industry Veteran Diane Nelson As New Chairperson

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The entertainment industry came out full-force tonight to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Next Generation Council (TNGC) of the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF).

At the gala event, held at the An Family's restaurant, Crustacean Beverly Hills, MPTF Foundation Chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg and TNGC Chairman Bob Osher announced that Diane Nelson, president of Warner Premiere/Warner Bros. Entertainment, has been appointed the new chairperson of TNGC. Osher, currently COO of Columbia Pictures Motion Picture Group, had served as the group's chairman since its inception.

The Next Generation Council (TNGC) was formed with the mission of mobilizing young members of the entertainment industry and informing new generations about the wide variety of health and social services offered by the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF). TNGC also recruits individuals who will eventually become the future leadership of MPTF. During the past ten years, TNGC has become a thriving reality with more than 500 young entertainment professionals enlisting to continue the 85-year-old tradition of taking care of their own.

"The Motion Picture & Television Fund has been taking care of generations of entertainment industry professionals for more than 85 years, and it is critical we engage the younger members of our industry in order to keep this legacy alive," said Jeffrey Katzenberg. "TNGC is the Fund's lifeline to the future."

The original group of industry professionals that started TNGC include industry veterans Betsy Davis, Laura Davis, Darcie Denkert, Larry Gleason, Gary Martin, Patty Mayer, Larry Mirisch, Al Newman, Gail Newman, Madeline Warren and exiting chairman Bob Osher.

"We're very proud of our accomplishments from the past ten years," said Bob Osher. "We have managed to raise in excess of $4 million, and many of the original members of TNGC are now serving on the MPTF board. The original intent of TNGC has become a reality, and one that will continue to grow and sustain the development of MPTF and its mission of caring for its own. Diane Nelson has been a longtime member of the TNGC board, and is the right person to lead us and continue to build on our success."

"TNGC helps younger members of our industry better understand what MPTF is all about, and, more importantly, that the organization offers a wide variety of health and social services beyond a retirement home," said incoming chairperson Diane Nelson. "I first became involved with TNGC because I saw how relevant MPTF is to me and my peers."

The 10th anniversary event took place at Crustacean restaurant, which was also the site of the group's first anniversary event. Both events were hosted by Elizabeth An, owner of Crustacean and a member of TNGC. "We're thrilled to participate in MPTF's celebration, and it's our 10th anniversary, so it's a double celebration for us," said An. Crustacean restaurant, opened in January 1997, has been the recipient of several design and culinary awards.

For 85 years, the Motion Picture & Television Fund has been a major service organization, promoting the well-being of California's entertainment community. Healthcare and childcare, retirement care and charitable social services are provided with compassion and respect for the dignity of the whole person. Charity is at the heart of what MPTF does at the Motion Picture & Television Fund's Country House and hospital, five health centers, Samuel Goldwyn Foundation Children's Center and through financial assistance and community outreach programs.
