MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- An eclectic collection of national and regional artists have united to create "FOR NEW ORLEANS," a 30-track double CD to benefit Habitat for Humanity's "Musicians' Village" in New Orleans. Released by artist-run music label Sugarfoot Music, the CD continues the great tradition of healing through music, donating 100% of profits to the cause.
The disc includes 13 previously unreleased tracks, many musical styles, and a full-color, 36-page booklet with photos and inspiring quotes from each artist. To learn more about the artists, the cause, and how to support it, visit http://www.sugarfootmusic.com/ .
Conceived by Harry Connick Jr. & Branford Marsalis, the Musicians' Village will house musicians and families whose lives were devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Habitat for Humanity has already begun rebuilding this neighborhood of musicians. Notable supporters from the music community include Dave Matthews, who recently issued a $1.5 million challenge grant.
All "FOR NEW ORLEANS" artists and their publishing companies donated royalties, reflecting the overwhelming support the music community feels for New Orleans' Musicians' Village. Bob Dylan allowed the use Jeff Buckley's rare and beautiful unreleased recording of "I Shall Be Released" (sung over the phone on live radio). Roy Orbison's estate donated royalties for a haunting remake of "Blue Bayou." Warner Brothers and Chrysalis are among the prominent music institutions to come forward with their support for this cause.
Sugarfoot Music http://www.sugarfootmusic.com/ is a new, independent music label that brings together great music and great causes. All Sugarfoot Music CDs help charities favored by our recording artists/partners. Justine Sasanfar's "Endless Song" (Sugarfoot's debut release) has fed thousands of Tanzanians through Kids Against Hunger. Sugarfoot's second release, Jelloslave's "Touch It," supports the Superior Hiking Trail, a national treasure on the shore of Lake Superior. Sugarfoot Music supports many musical genres to benefit an array of causes.
"FOR NEW ORLEANS" and all Sugarfoot CDs are available at http://www.sugarfootmusic.com/ , and through independent gift shops and music stores. "FOR NEW ORLEANS" joins the Sugarfoot roster on Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and all download services, including iTunes, in early December.
