EBONY Presents Hollywood in Harlem: 3rd Annual Pre-Oscar Celebration Honoring Hollywood's Elite

CHICAGO, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Oscar hopeful & Golden Globe nominee Forest Whitaker and famed casting director, Reuben Cannon are among the Hollywood elite that will be honored at the Third Annual EBONY Pre-Oscar Celebration on February 22, 2007. Established in 2005 by Johnson Publishing Company President & CEO, Linda Johnson Rice, this third annual pre-Oscar celebration and star-studded affair honors African-Americans in music, TV and film whose numerous accomplishments have inspired countless individuals in their field of entertainment. This year's event will be held at the legendary Jim Henson studios in Hollywood.

Recently celebrating its 60th anniversary, EBONY magazine has consistently highlighted the achievements of African-Americans over the years through the pages of the magazine. From its inception, the late John H. Johnson established a publishing dynasty that presented the African-American lifestyle through magazines, movies, music, television and everyday life. His daughter, Linda Johnson Rice is continuing his legacy by bringing the pages of EBONY magazine to life with their annual Hollywood in Harlem pre-Oscar soiree, honoring African-Americans who continue to make a difference in the world of film and television. Linda Johnson Rice states, "This is a premier event for our company as we celebrate the best in African-American accomplishment and creativity in Hollywood. It is an event that spotlights our own achievers but is also filled with much fun and excitement!"

The first annual EBONY Pre-Oscar Party honored 2005 Oscar nominees Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo for their work in "Hotel Rwanda," and Academy Award winners Jamie Foxx and Morgan Freeman as well as recording artists Ashanti and Wyclef Jean, actress LaTanya Richardson Jackson and pianist Pauletta Washington (wife of Academy Award winner, Denzel Washington). In 2006, EBONY Presents Hollywood in Harlem saluted director John Singleton, actress Kimberly Elise, entertainment manager Dolores Robinson, the legendary Cicely Tyson and recognized the South Africa multi-Oscar nominated film, Tsotsi.

Sponsors of the 2007 EBONY Pre-Oscar Celebration include Lincoln, Southwest Airlines, South African Tourism Board and Moet Hennessey. Each sponsor will contribute a scholarship to the Howard University John H. Johnson School of Communications, named for EBONY's founder.
