Tut Systems Launches IPTV Headend With Smart City

Tut Systems Launches IPTV Headend With Smart City

Telecom Provider for Walt Disney World and Surrounding Communities Selects Tut Systems as Prime Partner for IPTV Roll Out With Minerva Networks and Latens Systems

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tut Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS), an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, announced today that it has integrated its Astria(R) content processor (CP) and Astria(R) video services processor (VSP) headend solutions with Minerva's iTVManager middleware and Latens FCAS content and revenue protection solutions at a deployment with Smart City Television, an affiliate of Smart City Telecom of Lake Buena Vista, FL.

The joint solution provides Smart City with a secure, easily-deployed solution for their innovative television services roll out at the Walt Disney World Resort and other locations in central Florida. From a central Astria CP headend, Smart City plans to deliver more than 200 channels of video over their end-to-end fiber network to residential subscribers. In addition, the solution will utilize Tut Systems' Astria VSP for conversion of digital channels to analog RF at the edge of the network for hospitality users. Completing the solution are:

-- Minerva's iTVManager, a complete software platform for the management
and delivery of compelling and profitable television services over
broadband networks; and

-- Latens' Foundation CAS (FCAS), a modular conditional access system
which enables IPTV service providers to easily launch with a secure
video service.

"In choosing a partner for our IPTV service launch, we looked for the optimal combination of system reliability and quality, compelling user experience, and end-to-end IPTV integration expertise," said Marty Rubin, CEO of Smart City Telecom. "Tut Systems has consistently delivered on each of these with close coordination with their selected third party solutions to meet our specific requirements."

"Smart City has innovative ideas for bringing next generation TV services to their community. Our iTVManager middleware provides an open platform for turning those ideas into reality. The software's ease of use, flexibility and robust feature set will help Smart City quickly attract new subscribers interested in services only available with an IPTV system," said Matt Cuson, VP of Marketing for Minerva Networks.

"Content protection is essential when acquiring current content. The fact that Latens FCAS system is well accepted by studios and programmers as a resilient encryption technology removes a potentially serious content acquisition issue," said Dean Kashlan -- GM and VP at Latens. "Latens is delighted to be an encryption technology partner of Tut Systems for a reliable end-to-end IPTV solution."

"Smart City has an international reputation for delivering high quality telecommunications services through its state of the art network," said Bob Noonan, Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Customer Care for Tut Systems. "We are pleased to be playing a vital role in Smart City's leap into the IPTV marketplace."
