REMINDER: Thousands to Join Fannie Mae Foundation, Singer Songwriter Jewel for Help the Homeless Walkathon

The Annual Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon -- the capstone event of the year-round Help the Homeless Program -- will be held the Saturday before Thanksgiving to raise awareness of the more than 12,000 homeless people in the Washington metropolitan area and to raise funds for 180 local organizations that work to prevent and end homelessness.

As honorary chair of the Help the Homeless Program, singer and songwriter Jewel will help kick off this year's Walkathon on the National Mall.

In 2005, more than 110,000 people participated in Help the Homeless Program events, including the Walkathon and mini-walks, raising more than $7.8 million.
