HealthMedia Video Series Wins 2006 FREDDIE Award

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthMedia, Inc., the market leader in online behavior change interventions is pleased to announce that the video "Learn to Live with Asthma: A Patient Support Project" produced in collaboration with DesignConnection of Stockach, Germany has been awarded the top honor in the category of Allergies and Asthma at MediMedia's 32nd Annual International Health and Medical Media awards ceremony held Friday evening in New York City.

The award, known as the FREDDIE, recognizes and encourages excellence in health education. The awards are open to health and medical videos, DVDs, CD- ROMs or Web sites that address health or medical issues for consumers or health care professionals. HealthMedia's video series was commissioned by ALTANA Pharma AG of Konstanz, Germany.

The video series follows the sitcom genre and takes a light-hearted but informative approach to illustrate key strategies and tactics to help patients cope with asthma. The videos feature a group of friends as they see each other through the ups and downs in their daily lives as they deal with issues such as communicating with their physicians, being productive at work and school, and seeking emotional support. The video was distributed by physician groups throughout Europe.

Dr. Victor Strecher, HealthMedia Founder and Chief Science Officer accepted the award on the company's behalf along with ALTANA and DesignConnection at the ceremony held at Cipriani 42nd Street. "I am very proud of the work HealthMedia and our production partners have achieved in the area of health communications and interventions. Coming up with creative ways to blend behavioral science, complicated medical conditions like asthma and medication adherence, and engaging communication methods has been our sweet spot for years, and we are grateful for the recognition."

Adds Ted Dacko, HealthMedia CEO and President, "When it comes to living with chronic conditions like asthma, our approach has always been to treat the whole person coping with the condition, including doctor-patient communications, impact on work productivity, and the fear and stress that tend to go along with these diagnoses. The video series is an impactful way to reinforce the positive changes asthma patients can make in their lives."

This is HealthMedia's first FREDDIE Award. Runners-up in the Allergies and Asthma category were two programs from CNN Productions: "Food Allergies" and "Sabrina's Law: Peanut Allergies."
