Blip.tv Sweeps First Annual Videoblogging Awards

Company's featured episodic content shows dominate the evening

NEW YORK, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Blip.tv, a host and distributor of videoblogs and web-based TV shows, won both the people's choice and the judges' pick awards for best video host at this weekend's Vloggies. In addition, blip.tv shows dominated the first-ever awards ceremony for videoblogging, including the two biggest winners of the evening.

"This is wonderful affirmation that we continue to host the most engaging and creative videoblogs in the world," said blip.tv CEO Mike Hudack. "And walking away with two awards of our own is an incredible feeling."

Alive in Baghdad, hosted on blip.tv, was the biggest winner of the night, winning 7 awards including Best Vlog. American Brian Conley created Alive in Baghdad because he wasn't happy with the traditional media coverage of the War in Iraq. Today a team of local stringers cover the war, and everyday life in Baghdad, through videoblogging. Alive in Baghdad has been heralded around the country for sharing with the world footage of the war in Iraq you wouldn't see anywhere else. In addition to Best Vlog, Alive in Baghdad awards include Best Group Video (people's choice and judges' choice), Most Controversial (people's choice), Best Political Vlog (judges' choice) and Favorite Interview Vlog (judges' choice).

"We knew from the moment we saw Alive in Baghdad's first video on blip.tv that Brian was doing something incredible with videoblogging," said blip.tv COO Dina Kaplan. "Alive in Baghdad showcases the best of citizen journalism, and is an incredible example of the future of photojournalism."

Sci-fi send-up Galacticast won 5 awards: Best Entertainment Video (people's choice), Special Effects (people's choice and judges' choice), Website Design (people's choice) and Best Collaboration for Node 666 (people's choice.)
