The Weather Channel(R) Interactive Launches Weather Toolbar for Internet Explorer 7

New Toolbar Provides Instant Access to Local Weather from The Weather Channel Inside the Browser

ATLANTA, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Weather Channel Interactive, Inc. (TWCI), today announced the launch of a new toolbar designed and optimized specifically for the launch of Internet Explorer 7. The free toolbar enables users to constantly monitor their current weather conditions and receive severe weather alerts within their browser.

The toolbar includes today's and tomorrow's forecast with direct links to detailed weather information on weather.com, the most trusted source of online weather according to the most recent Nielsen Trust Study. The toolbar also provides quick links to the full 10-day forecast, live current radar images and updated video showcasing top weather events across the country.

"TWCi's strategy has always been to surround our users and provide weather information to them whenever, wherever and whatever they are doing. Like having the current temperature in the system tray, our users can get the weather information they need at a glance for planning travel, their morning commute or the weekend," said Monisha Longacre, director of consumer application software, The Weather Channel Interactive. "Most importantly, all these applications automatically -- and proactively -- alert our users to severe weather events, helping to keep them safe."

In addition to the toolbar, in the coming weeks The Weather Channel will release a "weatherized" version of Internet Explorer 7 to weather enthusiasts, which will include the toolbar as well as several other pre-configured options including default tabs, an embedded weather search and access to national and local weather RSS feeds, which takes advantage of the rich RSS platform built- in to Microsoft's latest browser release.

The Weather Channel(R) Toolbar can be downloaded directly from weather.com and will not require users to register.
