Telegent Systems and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Partner to Deliver the Ultimate Mobile TV Experience

TSMC Process Technology Enables Single-Chip Integration of RF and DSP

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Telegent Systems, Inc., a leader in advanced RF and digital signal processing technologies for Mobile TV in cellular phones and other portable media devices, today announced a breakthrough in the area of Mobile TV solutions. Telegent Systems used TSMC's advanced process capabilities, accurate CMOS RF design libraries and low-power performance to meet critical design requirements.

"Mobile TV promises to be one of the biggest drivers for mobile phone revenue growth," stated Weijie Yun, CEO and president of Telegent Systems. "Providing high-performance, long battery life and highly-integrated Mobile TV chipset solution in a small-footprint is a formidable technical challenge. We are very grateful for TSMC's stable and well-characterized process which enabled us to achieve the level of integration and produce production-worthy chips from the first silicon."

"Today's mobile phone designs continue to push the envelope in their demand for increasing levels of multimedia capabilities and advanced features like Mobile TV," said Jason Chen, vice president of corporate development, at TSMC. "We are delighted to collaborate with companies like Telegent Systems to push our technologies to the fullest of its capabilities, which enabled them to achieve performance and functionalities that has never been done before."

According to ABI Research, the Mobile TV market will grow to over 500 million handsets by 2011. Such explosive growth can be more readily realized by providing not only technically robust and high-performance Mobile TV chipset solutions, but also content-based Mobile TV receivers. Telegent Systems' solutions provide vivid TV viewing in everyday reception environments, and have been shown to be robust even up to speeds in excess of 430km per hour. In addition, Telegent Systems' solutions provide reception of today's existing, content-rich broadcasting standards, as well as future mobile standards. Consumers can now enjoy tuning into their favorite local channels and also subscribe to emerging made-for-mobile content.
