'Survivor' Finalist & Nurse Cirie Fields Brings Her Nursing Survival Instinct to Scrubs & Beyond
Former "Survivor" Finalist Cirie Fields will be visiting Scrubs & Beyond's Concord Mills location on Saturday, October 14, 2006, 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
What: Cirie Fields (finalist of SURVIVOR: PANAMA EXILE ISLAND) will be at Scrubs & Beyond in Concord, NC to sign autographs and photos for her fans on October 14th. She is currently an operating room nurse in Walterboro, South Carolina. Although Fields' is proud of being a part of "Survivor," she says her proudest accomplishment was becoming a nurse. Scrubs & Beyond is honored to host this special event with Cirie Fields to honor excellence in nursing. This is exciting for the nursing community who help people survive everyday. Cirie has shown the world that nurses can survive in the hardest challenges.
Cirie Fields has been a fan of Survivor since the first season. Each year she downloaded the application to be a contestant, but never had the courage to try out. There happened to be an open call for Survivor near where her sister lives and she decided that maybe she should give it a shot. Cirie said her experience on Survivor was very enlightening. When Cirie started the process she was deathly afraid of embarrassing herself in front of America. She said that she really underestimated herself socially and physically. She is proud of the fact that she was disciplined enough to lose 30 pounds once she learned that she would be a castaway on the show.
Cirie believes that being a nurse helped her with her Survivor challenges. She said the reason she was treated the way she was on the show is because of the way she treated the other castaways. She used her everyday job skills in interaction with team members. Cirie said that she treats each one of her surgery patients differently because each of them has their own needs. In being a nurse you are constantly trying to make your patients feel comfortable and at ease. She says being a nurse helped give her the ability to pick up on what each individual castaway needed. The interaction and social aspects she had with the contestants was the same as she had everyday with her patients.
"I would never do anything else besides nursing," said Cirie. She loves the interaction with patients. If she can make a patient comfortable and smile then she has done her job. She believes coming to the hospital and being sick is a scary experience as it is, but if she can ease this experience in any way she is happy. She thinks she has an overwhelming amount of empathy and she can feel their pain. Cirie said that when she makes a patient say you helped make this experience easier that this is like winning Survivor to her.
