'Sideways' Author Rex Pickett and Latin Jazz Legend Pete Escovedo to Appear at Loose Goose Wine Festival

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rex Pickett, author of the critically acclaimed novel "Sideways," which became a 2004 Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winning film by the same name, makes a book signing appearance at the Loose Goose Wine Festival in the Santa Clarita Valley this weekend, Oct. 7 and 8. This is Pickett's first public appearance in 14 months. Festivalgoers will also experience wine tasting, food, art, and entertainment at what has become Los Angeles' premier wine event following last year's successful debut.

"I encourage people to come and meet one of the most influential people of our time whose work has had a significant impact on the California wine business," said Peter Goossens, founder and executive producer of the Loose Goose Wine Festival. "The movie, 'Sideways,' based on Rex Pickett's novel, made pinot noir an overnight sensation and brought a new level of consumer interest for learning about wines. Wine festivals are a great place to learn what you like."

Approximately 300 wines will be available for tasting from a preferred mix of nearly 60 large, medium and smaller up-and-coming vineyards representing California, domestic and international wines, all exclusively selected to participate by invitation only.

In addition to Pickett's scheduled appearance, headline entertainment for the festival will be the Pete Escovedo Orchestra featuring Sheila E., Peter Michael and Juan Escovedo on Sunday, Oct. 8. "Pete Escovedo is a Latin jazz legend," said Murray Siegel, producer of the Loose Goose Wine Festival. "His daughter, Sheila E. (formerly with Prince), and sons Peter Michael and Juan are also well known and accomplished musicians in their own right. Having them play together as a family at the festival is a rare and special occasion."

Musicians-turned-vintners, the D'Anbino Family Jazz Band from Paso Robles will also perform on Sunday. Saturday evening's lineup includes the high energy sound of the Doctor Wu Band.

Located 35-miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, the festival returns to Bridgeport Park, 23520 Bridgeport Lane, Valencia, on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. General admission is $30 with advance purchase; $45 at the gate. Ages 21 and over. Detailed information and festival tickets are available online at http://www.loosegoosewinefestival.com/. For more information call 661-799-9463.
