Northern California Radio Television News Directors Association Schedules Annual Conference in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- NorCal RTNDA will hold its 25th annual conference and awards on Saturday, October 28, 2006, in San Francisco.

The conference will be held at the ABC Broadcast Center, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The awards banquet will take place that night at the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf.

The conference is designed to help students get into broadcast journalism, while seasoned professionals can sharpen their skills and network with news managers from northern California. Here's the schedule:

9:30 a.m. "A Foot in the Door"
A panel of news directors talks about what it takes to get
that next job, whether you're just starting out or
climbing the ladder. Topics will include how to structure
your audition tape, what skills will be needed in the
newsroom of the future and how to distinguish you from the
competition.

Trisha Coda, news director, KHSL-TV 12, Chico
Paul Hosley, news director, KGO-AM NewsTalk 810, San
Francisco
Stacy Owen, news director, KXTV 10, Sacramento
Tracey Watkowski, news director, KFSN-TV ABC 30,
Fresno
Kevin Keeshan, vice president, news, KGO-TV ABC 7,
San Francisco

11:00 a.m. "VJ - One Year Later"
The video journalist revolution is upon us and the
competition is growing. KRON, the first major market
television station to embrace Video Journalists, is now
100% VJ and the model has moved beyond TV. Newspapers,
magazines, web news services and at least one wire service
consider video a vital element of online reporting. The
National Television Academy has just awarded its first
Emmy for broadband video news to a Video Journalist at
WashingtonPost.com. Where is the VJ revolution taking us
and how will it affect you? If you're a broadcast student
or working in television news this is the session you
can't afford to miss.

Haven Daley, web journalist, Associated Press
Vincent Tremblay, associate producer, C|Net
Andrew Shinnick, former managing editor, KRON-TV 4 /
Assistant News Director, ABC 7

2:00 p.m. "The Newsroom of the Future"
Your future is digital and it won't be anything like
yesterday's newsroom. We've come a long way from teletype
machines and carbon paper, but the next few years will
bring a wireless universe of digital video and
information. Was does this mean for news gathering and
news delivery?

Bret Burkhart, anchor/reporter, KGO-AM, San Francisco
Ed Casaccia, Director of Product Management &
Marketing, Digital News Production, Grass Valley,
Inc.
Doug Sovern, reporter, KCBS-AM, San Francisco
