Director of New Film 'TOMORROW IS TODAY' Delivers Big Budget Look With Affordable HDV Prosumer Camera

Small budget feature film 'TOMORROW IS TODAY' delivers production quality that rivals multimillion-dollar films thanks to skillful use of affordable technology by Director Frederic Lumiere and his team.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Filmmaker Frederic Lumiere's "TOMORROW IS TODAY," which has already received the Directorial Discovery Award at the 2006 Rhode Island International Film Festival, as well as both the Best Feature Film Audience Award and Best of Festival Award at the Trimedia Festival, will make its West Coast premiere at the Majestic Crest Theater in Westwood, CA at 4:30pm Sunday, October 8th.

Juan Martinez, Senior Manager of Technology at Sony Professional Video, says, "The release of 'TOMORROW IS TODAY' is a milestone for small-budget filmmakers and is a perfect example of the applications for which Sony designed the HVR-Z1U."

"When technology is put in the hands of a skilled filmmaker like Frederic Lumiere you get remarkable results. This is not only affordable digital cinema but also great-looking art," says James Mathers, Founder of the Digital Cinema Society.

Lumiere's goal was to produce a film on a small budget that looks and feels no different to the audience than any other film they might pay $10 to see. "Up until now the only way for a small-budget digital filmmaker to reach commercial success was to incorporate the inevitable substandard image quality into the story, but 'TOMORROW IS TODAY' proves that is no longer the case. Thanks to the introduction of affordable high def cameras, skillful shooting techniques and custom post-production workflows, we now know it's possible to deliver a commercially viable film on a small budget without making production quality compromises," says Lumiere.

The film was also nominated for Best Feature and Best Cinematography in Rhode Island. "The nomination for Best Cinematography is the one I'm the most proud of. It is a testimony to what we've been able to accomplish visually with our DP, Kevin C.W. Wong," says Lumiere.

Lumiere continues, "Image quality is very important, but so are so many other aspects of a production such as audio, story, and of course casting. Scout Taylor-Compton, our lead, is an amazing actor. She delivers a performance people won't forget."

TOMORROW IS TODAY which was written by Mark Hefti, is a drama about young Julie Peterson (Scout Taylor-Compton) who saves the life of a suicidal drifter and begins the quest to save him emotionally as well. While battling the local police chief who wants this transient out of town, her own broken family, and a jealous young admirer, secrets are revealed sparking a chain of events that will change everyone's lives, forever.
