The Good The Bad and The Queen

The Good The Bad and The Queen

Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong Album Out January 2007

NEW YORK, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- "I thought just as an experiment, how would Tony and Paul sound together?" -- Damon Albarn

The Good, The Bad and The Queen is a new project featuring Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Tony Allen (Fela Kuti/Africa 70) and Simon Tong (The Verve).

The first seeds of the endeavor can be traced back to 2002, when Damon Albarn first worked with Tony Allen. Two years later Tony and Simon Tong (The Verve) would join Damon at Aphrodisia studios in Lagos for two weeks of recording.

Then in 2005 Damon met with Paul Simonon (The Clash) to discuss the idea of working together. Damon invited Paul to hear the Nigeria recordings and upon hearing them, he commented, "I came down to listen to two tracks, and I could hear a bass line for it immediately. We thought 'Let's give it a go...' and we basically started from that... and we started a whole new record."

The four-piece will make its live debut, playing the album in its entirety at a sold-out date at London's Roundhouse on October 26th as part of the BBC's Electric Proms.

The Good, The Bad and The Queen, produced by Danger Mouse, is due out January 2007. The album will be preceded by first single, "Herculean," going to UK Radio on October 9th. The artwork for the limited edition single is by the album's bass player Paul Simonon.
