The Art of Ringtonism: Get rid of Corny Ringtones
The Art of Ringtonism: Get rid of Corny Ringtones
Ringtone Society has Artists Composing Unique Ringtones
TILBURG, Netherlands, October 6/PRNewswire/ -- Do you know them? The boring Nokia tune, the cheesy new-age tunes and the
irritating Crazy Frog? The world is flooded with the sound of ringtones. Some
of them are nice, most of them are annoying. And there is not a single
original one. The Ringtone Society is rebelling against this lack of artistic
value. The fact is, it can be different. It is time for The Art of
Ringtonism!
The Ringtone Society wants to free the world from corny commercial
ringtones. That is why it is asking artists and composers to compose their
own, unique ringtones. Producer Theo Andriessen: "The Ringtone Society
intends to transform public space in the same way that graffiti-culture made
travelling in public transport fun again. What started out as an underground
movement was soon picked up by the traditional art circuit. The Ringtone
Society places audio-tags in the public environment, and puts avant-garde
culture in the place where it belongs: not in a concert hall or in an art
gallery alone, but back in the public domain."
This initiative is originated in the Netherlands, where it is a great
success. Andriessen: "Lots of people are irritated by the low level of the
ringtones they are hearing around them every day. The ringtone is a serious
medium. The artistic level should be raised. And we are contributing to
that!" This is proven by www.ringtonesociety.com where by now dozens of
specially composed ringtones by Dutch and international artists can be
downloaded.
After its introduction in the Netherlands the Ringtone Society is going
international. First in Australia, where the society is programmed for the
Melbourne International Arts Festival from October 12th to 28th but by now
the organization is also active in Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, United
States, France, Italy, Spain and Finland.
And this is only the beginning. Andriessen: "It is time for adventurous
musicians and composers throughout the world to start using this medium. It
is an artistic challenge that they cannot ignore. We offer them an
independent and interactive platform, they have to interpret The Art of
Ringtonism!"
