Alison Krauss To Participate in the 64th Annual Santa Train

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy Award-winner Alison Krauss will be the special guest on the 2006 Santa Train, CSX Transportation (CSXT) officials have announced.

This year marks the 64th running of the Santa Special, which is one of the region's most anticipated holiday traditions. On November 18, the Santa Special will travel through 14 towns in the Appalachian region, distributing 15 tons of toys and gifts to thousands of people. It is fitting, organizers say, that Krauss will be this year's special guest because her musical roots are so steeped in the traditions of bluegrass and the mountain music beloved in the area.

"CSXT is thrilled Alison will be on board this year," said Michael J. Ward, CSX chairman, president and CEO. "Having her with us this year makes it all the more memorable for everyone involved."

Krauss, who at the age of 35 has won 20 Grammy Awards, released her first album when she was 16. To date, she has released a total of 11 albums, all on Rounder Records, with her longtime band of highly acclaimed musicians, Union Station.

The Santa Train Express is a holiday project co-sponsored by CSXT, the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce and Food City Grocers of Abingdon, Va.
