Verizon Business Signs Up ABC as Digital Media Platform Customer
Media Company Deploys Platform for Workflow, Multi-Channel Distribution
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Business today announced a new multi-year agreement under which ABC Entertainment will use the Verizon Media Platform.
ABC's Digital Media Group, part of The Walt Disney Company's Disney-ABC Television Group, is using the Verizon Media Platform Workgroup Edition to automate its content workflow, including content repurposing and distribution. It is also using the platform's multi-channel distribution capabilities to meet the growing demand for distribution of promotional and entertainment content to multiple outlets, including ABC affiliate networks, wireless providers, mobile devices and Web portals.
The Media Platform combines with ABC's existing production system to enhance and streamline various processes including editing, transcoding and storage of media files, and content distribution. The platform also helps ABC meet its media-asset auditing and quality control service-level agreements with its distribution partners.
"The digital media marketplace is exploding, and ABC's content is now being delivered to multiple outlets in various formats for delivery to multiple wireless applications and the Internet," said Ed Franklin, vice president of IT Services for Verizon Business. "Verizon Business is helping ABC manage this growth opportunity for new distribution outlets by powering its Media Platform to automate processes for managing digital video content and pushing delivery to virtually any media-enabled device, including wireless phones."
Alexis Rapo, vice president, digital media, ABC Entertainment, said, "Deploying the Verizon Media Platform provides us with a flexible, scalable media asset management solution that improves our workflow efficiencies, enabling our potential for growth. By working with Verizon Business' professional services group, we were able to integrate key modules of the Media Platform into our existing editing environment and can now manage and distribute an increasing flow of digital content in a variety of formats in a cost-effective and efficient manner."
The Media Platform -- designed for industry producers and directors, content aggregators, post-production personnel and independent film directors, as well as mobile/broadband and Internet protocol TV (IPTV) operators -- addresses a need in the marketplace for managing and delivering digital content throughout the production process. Previously, taking digital content from a "rough cut" through editing, finish-out and distribution involved a process that often included deploying a wide array of disparate systems and formats, which could drive up the time and expense of production.
