SonicWALL Secure Wireless Network Forms Foundation of High-Tech Home for ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

SonicWALL Secure Wireless Network Forms Foundation of High-Tech Home for ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

Channel Partner Silicon East Oversees Advanced Technology Installation to Create Safe, Enabling Family Environment

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL) today announced that its Unified Threat Management and secure wireless appliances are at the heart of the Llanes family's new home, which was created in May this year by sponsors and donors to ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. CT) on ABC.

The Pinnacle Companies in Chatham, NJ (www.pinnaclecompanies.net), a large homebuilder and SonicWALL user, was selected by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as the builder for an extended length special episode of the show, which airs on Sunday, September 17th. Pinnacle's task was to demolish and rebuild a home for a family with disabilities in Bergen County, New Jersey. Pinnacle was given just one week to complete the project.

Pinnacle partnered with many technology companies to build the infrastructure. Pinnacle's network services provider Silicon East, Inc., a SonicWALL channel partner, volunteered its services as overall technology coordinator for the project. Silicon East's president Marc Harrison designed a network based on technology from SonicWALL, a leading provider of continuous data protection and network, Web and email security solutions. "Technology played a particularly important role in creating a safe and enabling environment since four of the Llanes family members are blind or partially blind, and one is deaf," said Harrison.

Harrison installed a SonicWALL PRO series security appliance to regulate and secure traffic over the T3 communications line, with three SonicPoint secure wireless access points and power over Ethernet adaptors, plus a weatherproof outdoor enclosure from SonicWALL partner HyperLink to protect one of the access points and provide powerful, secure wireless access from any part of the house.

For Harrison, it has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. "A crowd of thousands came out to watch and cheer us on. Our installation created possibly the most technically-advanced home anywhere to enable a family with disabilities. And this all happened at lightening speed."

Matt Medeiros, CEO and president of SonicWALL, said, "We are honored to have played a part in helping this very deserving family, and are grateful to Marc Harrison for including SonicWALL in the project. With a secure network in place, the family can use their new wired and wireless technology freely, without worrying about threats coming in from the Internet. We wish the Llanes family well in this new phase of their lives."
