David Licko Named Senior Vice President/Finance and CFO of Denver Newspaper Agency
DENVER, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- David F. Licko, an accomplished executive with over 30 years experience in the newspaper industry, has been named Senior Vice President/Finance and CFO of the Denver Newspaper Agency (DNA), effective October 2.

Licko, 59, comes to Denver from Indianapolis, where he served as Senior Vice President/Finance and Group Controller for Indianapolis Newspapers with responsibilities for five newspapers in Indiana, plus 16 other newspaper properties in 11 states. Licko joined the company in August 2000, when Gannett purchased the Indianapolis Star, Indiana's largest newspaper.
Licko began his newspaper career in 1973 joining the corporate office of Speidel Newspapers, Inc., a holding company for 13 newspapers. After the Gannett Company acquired Speidel in 1977, Dave transferred to the Gannett newspaper in Sioux Falls, SD to become controller. In 1982, Dave was promoted to controller of the Reno Gazette-Journal and also served as the regional controller for the Gannett/West Newspaper Group, which included 15 newspapers throughout the west.
In October 1991, Licko transferred to the Gannett corporate offices in Arlington, Virginia as Director/Financial Operations. He was soon promoted to Vice President/Financial Operations for the Newspaper Division of Gannett one year later and served in that capacity for eight years.
During his tenure with Gannett, Licko was named Newspaper Division Financial Executive of the Year Award two times -- the first in 1989 and again in 1991. In addition, he was also named the Gannett President's Ring Winner in Finance five times.
While in Indianapolis, Licko served on the board of directors of the Indianapolis 500 and the Children's Bureau of Indianapolis. In addition, Licko was President of the International Newspaper Financial Executives in 1989, and a member since 1975.
The DNA, which was established in 2000 by the E. W. Scripps Company and MediaNews Group, Inc., manages the business and production operations of the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post under the terms of a joint operating agreement (JOA).
Scripps, which owns the News, and MediaNews Group, which owns The Post, each have a 50-percent stake in the DNA.
