'B'Ware!: Bad Film Directors From the 50's and Beyond Presented by Cuyahoga Community College
Friday night course will examine science fiction, horror and fantasy films
HIGHLAND HILLS, Ohio, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning on October 13, Tri-C will offer a course called "B"Ware!: Bad Film Directors from the 50's and Beyond at Tri-C's Unified Technologies Center Theatre, located at 2415 Woodland Ave. in Cleveland. The course, which examines science fiction, horror and fantasy films by three legendary directors, will meet over eight Friday nights, from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Students enrolled in the course will watch films by directors Roger Corman, William Castle and Ed Wood on the big screen. Screenings will be followed by discussions on the definition of a "B" movie, the movies' themes and their respective social and political contexts. The movies include "The Little Shop of Horrors" (1962), "Attack of the Crab Monsters" (1957), "13 Ghosts" (1960), "Bride of the Monster" (1955) and "Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster" (1965).
"Movies are not only a treasured part of our cultural heritage, but are also a window to the ideas and emotions of the period and media culture that they emerged from," said Greg Klayber, the course instructor. "We can use these familiar and unfamiliar films to illuminate our perspectives of the cultural perceptions and fears of the 'American of decades ago.'" Klayber has been an avid aficionado of the "B" film genre since his childhood and has acquired an extensive collection of the films, which he often uses to produce outdoor film festivals.
The cost for "B"Ware is $79. To register, call (216) 987-3075.
