WangYou Media Launches 'Red Town' - A Brand New Entertainment Platform To Promote Rising Stars from China's Grassroots Internet Users
BEIJING, Aug. 2 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- WangYou Media (URL: http://www.wangyou.com/ ), a leading cross-media entertainment services provider in China focused on user-generated content (UGC), is delighted to announce today that it has officially launched a new entertainment brand ''Red Town'', a move aimed to explore and promote ''super star'' amateur artists emerging out of its online platform, and to build WangYou Media into an artist incubator for the dynamic and aspiring youth community in China who are increasingly using the web as a boundless stage to showcase their creative talent.
Together with the launch of the brand, the UGC entertainment company also announces that it has signed an exclusive agent agreement with the ''New Perfume Band'', a Beijing-based amateur music band whose musical talent was discovered with their many creative works uploaded to WangYou's entertainment portal, WangYou.com, and who now become the first designated musical group being promoted under the ''Red Town'' flag.
WangYou Media was established in March 2005 and since then has been rapidly growing. It is dedicated to providing China's online youth community with a process of creating, sharing, organizing and distributing all kinds of digital amateur works, including personal journals, photo albums, radio talk shows, home movies, flash animation, cartoons and more.
Red Town, the latest developed online services by WangYou Media, is positioned as an independent artist agent brand of the company with a vision to create a fair, engaging, facilitated and massive platform for those who have the talent and ambition to become the country's future stars. With its commitment to promote only non-professional grassroots artists, Red Town also aims to grow itself into a unique entertainment agent in China drawing on the value and vast resources of WangYou users.
''The Red Town differentiates itself from other musical label companies and artist agencies in that we are not just promoting singers with the greatest potential in terms of market value, but rather focus on helping amateurs who have the real passion for all forms of art,'' said Harold Wu, WangYou Media's Senior Vice President of Multi-media Development, who recently joined WangYou from Star Media Group, a subsidiary of News Corp.
''If you believe that you have an outstanding talent in anything, be it singing, dancing, acrobatics, magic or comedian acting, you have a chance to become a member of the Red Town,'' Mr. Wu asserted. He also added that once the agent contract is signed with a member, WangYou will commit a great deal of resources to promote the artist via a powerful cross-media platform the company is quickly building up in the Internet, wireless and traditional media areas, including television and radio broadcasting services.
In the past two months, WangYou Media has established strategic partnerships with industry leaders across Internet and offline traditional media to enhance its media platform, including a recent collaboration with Tencent's QQ.com, China's number one portal site targeting the youth community.
Since November 2005, the company has worked with over 120 radio stations across the country to broadcast a daily radio program purely based on content generated and shared by WangYou users. Starting from June, the company has also produced a music show to air over campus broadcasting services of 150 universities in China.
Indeed, WangYou Media is taking big steps to position itself as the country's first destination for entertainment-oriented user-generated content, and an exciting platform for the new generation of Chinese to express, share and showcase their newly found creative talent.
The New Perfume Band is just one perfect example. The four-member band with an average age of 21 began their online entertainment career at WangYou 6 months ago and quickly stood out of the several million of WangYou users through online and mobile short messages voting by their peers who share the same passion for music and creative art.
''We're all excited about being chosen as the lead for the Red Town. That's where you'll find the really cool tunes!'' said Fox Bin, keyboard player of the New Perfume Band.
