Votes Are In -- Breakfast Frittata Italiano is America's New Family Favorite Recipe

From World Cup Soccer to the Kitchen, This is the Year for Italian Inspiration

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- After weeks of simmering anticipation, America has decided -- Jenny Flake's Breakfast Frittato Italiano is the new family favorite recipe. The makers of Borden(R) Cheese have selected Jenny Flake of Gilbert, Arizona, as the grand prize winner in the national "Elsie's Family Favorites Recipe Contest."

From the more than 1,800 recipes submitted, judges carefully pared the cheese-filled creations down to 25 finalists ranging from savory salads to after-school snacks. Recipe lovers were invited to cast a vote for their favorite cheese-inspired recipe at http://www.elsie.com/ during the month of July. Close to 14,000 votes poured in and at the end of the voting period, Jenny Flake's Breakfast Frittata Italiano won with more than 3,000 votes.

Now the Flake family will receive a special treat -- a visit from one of America's favorite celebrity chef, Curtis Aikens. Chef Aikens has hundreds of television credits to his name including appearances on Food Network's Food in a Flash, CNN, Oprah, Entertainment Tonight, and NBC Nightly News. Chef Aikens continues to entertain and delight home chefs with dynamic cooking demonstrations and simple meal ideas and is currently working on a television project, Cooking Fresh, a 13-part series produced by Alabama Public Television. His show takes viewers into the kitchen, as well as out into the local fields to see where his tasty ingredients are harvested.

Chef Aikens will go to Flake's home in early September to cook up a big family meal. While in town, Chef Aikens and the Flake family will stop by a local food pantry to deliver a supply of Borden cheese donated by American Dairy Brands in honor of Flake's win. In addition, Flake's family will enjoy all of their family favorite recipes from the comforts of a newly remodeled kitchen. As the contest winner, Flake also receives a $5,000 kitchen makeover and a year's supply of Borden Cheese.

Flake, a mother of two young sons, says her grandmother was her true inspiration for learning how to cook. "I remember growing up watching my grandmother in the kitchen making us great meals. She always seemed to know how to cook and passed that knowledge on to my mom, who passed it along to me. I now cook with my four-year-old all of the time."

"We have found that even though today's families are busy, they are still taking time to make and enjoy special recipes," says Mark Korsmeyer, President of American Dairy Brands. "Elsie's Family Favorites Recipe Contest was created to celebrate the memories and traditions families share over food and passing down recipes from generation to generation."
