About the International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace was established unanimously by all member governments of the United Nations in 1981, with a UN General Assembly resolution. The day is devoted to "commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people." It provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. This annual Peace Day marks individual and collective progress toward building a new culture of peace, and it is chance to reaffirm our common commitment to peace -- above all interests and differences of religion, race and culture worldwide.
